The WMPE is offering introductory workshops and small group tryouts (limit, 4 players per session) for first year students in hand and stick percussion instruments, conducted by the director, Hafiz Shabazz. This opportunity provides a set on conga, djembe and timbale techniques that are used within the ensemble. Individuals with music reading ability are welcomed please prepare a short piece of music that you are comfortable with playing. These sessions will be Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15, from Noon to 5 pm in Lower Buck in the Music Area of the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Additionally, the director is looking for a guitarist and bassist for this year's ensemble. All workshops provide a brief understanding and overview of what is considered world music and how it’s performed. Sign up sheets with tryout times will be found on the bulletin board outside the Ensembles Office (#48) in the Hop.

For more information, call or contact Stephen Langley in the Ensembles Office at 646.2530 or blitz stephen.langley@dartmouth.edu. Please note: audition times cannot be scheduled over the phone.
