The advent of digital literacy has turned legions of literate people into text-makers and text-breakers. In this environment, philology is not a dusty old idea but a “global knowledge practice” (Sheldon Pollock). This conference seeks a creative rejuvenation of philology, mediating between words and their social situations, visual forms, and historical avatars. It seeks to enliven forms of scholarly communication that go beyond the convention of read papers, as speakers reflect with the audience on the broadest potential of humanities today. Directed by Michelle Warren.
Cosponsored by The Leslie Humanities Center, Department of French and Italian, Department of Classics, Comparative Literature Program and Dean of Faculty.
