There will be a post-film discussion sponsored by the African and African-American Studies Program (AAAS).

On January 1, 2009, an unarmed black man named Oscar Grant was fatally shot by an Oakland transit cop while lying facedown on a subway platform. Does it matter that Grant was kind to animals, loved his daughter, helped strangers and resolved to turn his life around? Set largely on the last day of Grant’s life, Ryan Coogler’s Sundance Audience Award winner answers that question with a heartfelt and emphatic yes. “A firestorm of a movie” (Entertainment). D: Ryan Coogler, USA, 2013, 85m.
