Guest speakers, Adina Fischer, Geisel ’15 MD PhD  and Marie Onakimaiya, Geisel ’14 PhD will present “Moving Forward from Disaster, Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR): Tools Every Helper Can Carry with Them.”

SPR is a new, evidence informed, modular approach to disaster recovery developed by the National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorders that helps people process their losses, recover from disaster, and move forward in their lives.  SPR can be easily learned and implemented by both healthcare providers and lay helpers to help survivors recover from both natural and manmade disasters…from 9-11 to Oklahoma tornadoes to Sandy Hook-Newtown to Hurricanes Katrina, Irene and Sandy to the Boston Marathon to whatever, tragically, is next.  Adina and Marie will discuss the SPR approach and  their experiences working with Hurricane Sandy survivors in NYC this spring (yes, there is still need).  We hope to schedule SPR provider trainings in the fall; this is a great opportunity to learn about the approach.  Please join us!
