Objectives – Participants will be able to:

 

  1. Discuss the claim that even “safe and effective” medical treatments do not work for most patients.
  2. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of three approaches for estimating individual treatment effects: 1) risk stratification; 2) “small data”; and 3) N-of-1 trials.
  3. Explain the mechanisms by which N-of-1 trials might be expected to improve patient outcomes.
