SARAH ROOKER, Director of the Norwich Historical Society, discusses homes built by and for architects, artists, scholars, and doctors who settled in the Norwich and Hanover around World War II. This set of very sculptural houses is intertwined with the history of DARTMOUTH'S ART DEPARTMENT, it's artists and architects, and the Artist-In-Residence program.
Modernist ideas and thinkers were coming directly here from Europe. ARCHITECTURAL IDEAS were spreading outward from our area from the1930’s on, through publications, teaching and building designs. And on campus, an invigorating tension began between traditional and modern architecture. DADA is inviting Modernist architects from the Mid-Century to attend, so bring your questions. All generations welcome.
