Screenwriter extraordinaire Aaron Sorkin finally gets behind the camera to tell the incredible true story of the rise and fall of Molly Bloom.

As a writer, Sorkin has made a specialty of finding ways to tell dense and complicated stories about fascinating real-life contemporary figures—MoneyballThe Social Network and Steve Jobs all qualify—and now as a director he takes on his first female protagonist. A fearsomely sharp, beautiful, world-class athlete, Bloom ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her winning streak ends in the middle of the night with 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Faced with certain jail time and bankruptcy, Bloom’s only weapons are her secret list of players and criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba). Jessica Chastain (Miss Sloane) earned a Golden Globe Best Actress nod for her mesmerizing performance as a fearless, enigmatic woman succeeding in a world of powerful men. D: Aaron Sorkin, US, 2017, Runtime: 2h20m
