We will be looking at how the issues raised in these films impact communities, globally, nationally, and locally, and thinking about how we can make a social impact.

10am: “The Youthbuild Documentary Project”

Documenting four students’ year-long journey toward graduation, the film interweaves dramatic stories of poverty and opportunity, exploring the unforgettable personal struggles to reclaim communities and reinvent fragile lives.

1pm: “In My Father’s House”

“In My Father’s House” explores identity and legacy in the African-American family, as Grammy award-winning rapper Che “Rhymefest” Smith and his long-lost father reconnect and try to build a new future in Chicago’s turbulent South Side.

4pm: “The Trials of Darryl Hunt”

“The Trials of Darryl Hunt” documents the aftermath of a brutal rape/murder and harrowing wrongful conviction in the modern American South. The film offers an eye-opening, provocative, and haunting examination of community – and a criminal justice system – subject to racial bias and tainted by fear.
