This Texas-based ensemble introduces new listeners to the glorious 700+ year-old Sufi music tradition of qawwali. With driving rhythms, sinuous melodies and poems of love and longing in multiple languages, Riyaaz Qawwali offers a universal message of oneness and celebrates the diversity of Southern Asia. Representing many faiths and national ancestries, its eight members weave beguilingly ornamented vocals with a lush soundscape of harmonium, dholaktabla, violin, tambourine and cajon for a transcendent musical experience.
