Norman Oppenheimer (Richard Gere) lives a lonely life in the margins of New York City power and money—a would-be operator dreaming up financial schemes that never come to fruition. An opportunist with nothing real to offer, Norman comically strives to ingratiate himself at every turn. His incessant networking ultimately leads him to a charismatic Israeli politician, a connection which lands him in the middle of a geopolitical drama beyond anything he could have ever imagined, and everyone now wants to be his friend.

With its stunning cast (including Hank Azaria, Steve Buscemi, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Michael Sheen) and expert cinematography, this amusing and heady comic drama explores a human frailty all too easy to forgive: the need to matter. D: Joseph Cedar, US, 2017, 1h 57m
