We now live in a world where people and things regularly move across the planet with dizzying speed.  It's tempting to think that this is simply the result of improved technology and eager markets.  But it also required the construction of an infrastructure for global travel, an infrastructure that was largely built by the US military.  This talk explores the "flattening" of the world by the United States during World War II and the early Cold War.
