Nakanishi received her MFA from San Diego State University and is a professor of Art at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, CA. She is sansei, meaning third-generation Japanese American. Her California upbringing is evident in work strongly influenced by the natural beauty of the West Coast and its connection to the Pacific Rim.
