Ephrat “Bounce” Asherie is a Harlem-based hip hop and house dancer, and founding member of MAWU, an all-female house dance collective that strives to embody strong and positive images of women in New York’s underground house dance community. Asherie trained in ballet and modern dance but found her artistic home in breaking, hip hop and house, training with Richard Santiago (aka BreakEasy) and Marjory Smarth, among others. She is the artistic director of Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD) and has received numerous awards for her choreography. Asherie is on the faculty at Wesleyan University and at Broadway Dance Center.
