Anthropologist Brian Palmer is haunted by such individuals who risk everything for a more humane society. He gathers wisdom from heroic lives and applies it to everyday questions of surviving as an idealist in an unforgiving world. What can our bravest contemporaries and fallen friends teach us about how to live?
Brian Palmer is a social anthropologist and scholar of religion at Uppsala University in Sweden. Previously he held the Torgny Segerstedt Guest Professorship at Gothenburg University, and before that he taught at Harvard. In April, Dartmouth's delegation to a Matariki Network Workshop on Global Citizenship (group that included Assistant Provost Laurel Stavis, Assistant Director of the Dickey Center Melody Burkins, Professor Ronald Edsforth, Freya Jamison '17, and Victor Cabrera '19) was very impressed by Professor Palmer. His visit to Dartmouth is sponsored by the Matariki Network and the Provost's Office. His lecture "Courage that Changes the World" will be presented in 041 Haldeman at 4:30 on Monday October 17th. This free lecture is open to the Dartmouth Community and the general public.
