Dr. Borczuk is Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Vice Chairman and Director of Anatomic Pathology at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.

The main focus of his research interest has been in the characterization of lung adenocarcinoma with an emphasis on invasion acquisition. The concept of invasive size is now at the center of the discussions for AJCC Staging 8th Edition and the next adenocarcinoma classification. His research on an advanced form of lung cancer, sarcomatoid carcinoma, unearthed a high rate (over 20%) of MET exon 14 skipping – a targetable alteration which has led to treatment responses in these lung cancer patients. This high rate in this uncommon subtype of cancer has been corroborated by 2 subsequent studies, and offers a treatment option in this otherwise intractable cancer.
