Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra
Program includes Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 2” (with soloist Jessica Tong ’17), Debussy’s “La Mer” and Ravel’s “Bolero.”
FILIPPO CIABATTI conductor
The Hop’s resident orchestra pairs Beethoven with two French impressionists. With Jessica Tong ’17 playing the part Beethoven wrote for his own prodigious piano skills, the concerto abounds in charm and good humor, as well as eloquent slow passages. The three-movement Debussy evokes the ocean while Ravel’s sultry Spanish dance—his most famous composition—slowly builds to a thundering finish.
