Edward M. Brown, MD, CEO of the Ontario Telemedicine Network and president of the American Telemedicine Association, will present “Virtual Care: Where We’ve Been and Where We Are Going,” at Telehealth Grand Rounds on Monday, June 16, from 12-1 p.m., in Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's Auditorium G.

Description:

This lecture, presented virtually, will help members of the health care community understand an evolving model of health care delivery that can improve access to quality care in our rural region and support services that promote patient-driven disease management through novel technological platforms.

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

·         Describe the concept of telemedicine and how it may enhance health care delivery.

·         Discuss how telemedicine can improve health care access for isolated rural populations.

·         Discuss how innovative programs can leverage information technology, such as cell phones, computers, networked devices, and simple remote health monitoring tools to help providers and patients manage chronic conditions, maintain health and wellness and improve adherence, engagement and clinical outcomes.

Dr. Brown is a founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), one of the largest and most active integrated telemedicine networks in the world. Dr. Brown has won numerous awards for his work in telemedicine, including most recently, a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award for his contributions to health care in Canada. In 2010, he was chosen as one of 25 Living Transformational Canadians by a national media panel sponsored by the Globe and Mail, CTV and Le Presse. He currently sits on the board of OntarioMD and is the president of the American Telemedicine Association. An emergency medicine physician who studied mathematics and engineering before embarking on his medical career, Dr. Brown is a passionate advocate for telemedicine as a tool to improve access to care, quality of care and the sustainability of health care systems.
