"A Three-Dimensional Model for Feedback: Unstable ULF Waves at High Latitudes"

A three-dimensional (3D) model based on IFI theory is developed and used to investigate the multiple physical effects of the FACs (aka. discrete auroral arc) carried by ULF waves in the high latitude region. The simulations resulting from the 3D model reproduce discrete auroral arcs with strong homogeneous/inhomogeneous structures that are in good agreement with observed data. The role of several nonlinear physical effects included in the model have been discussed. The model is successfully used in explaining the spectral characteristics of observed waves during the substorm event on October 29, 2008 in Alaska.
