Team-Based Learning (TBL) methods promote active learning and critical thinking in an effective and economical fashion. TBL fosters student preparation, engagement, and critical thinking without requiring special technologies or large numbers of faculty. Team-Based Learning has been implemented in over 90 medical institutions around the world, and has been applied with all levels of medical learners. Over 50 articles have been published in the medical education literature, and have documented increased NBME subject and shelf exam scores, higher student engagement, better professional and team communication behaviors, and enhanced critical thinking. The method was prominently featured in the 2010 Carnegie Report on Educating Physicians.
