Throughout her career, Barbara Levenson has repeatedly heard the phrase, "you can’t do that." With determination and strength of purpose, she has proved that statement false over and over again.

From her experiences as the first woman president of the Columbus School Board, as a prosecutor in the office of Janet Reno and later as a judge in Miami-Dade County, to her current status as successful mystery novelist, Barbara has constantly challenged the notion of what is acceptable and appropriate for both her gender and age group. She will discuss her personal experiences and reflect on exactly what it takes to achieve success despite constantly hearing the word, "No!"

Barbara Levenson has lived in Miami for the past 37 years. A cum laude graduate of the University of Miami School of Law, Barbara has served as both a prosecutor and as a private attorney. She served as a judge in the circuit court of Miami-Dade County for twelve years, and as a senior judge for six years. Barbara was the first woman elected to the Columbus, Ohio Board of Education and later served as the board’s first female president. She was the first woman to receive the Ohio Newspaper Man of the Year award. Barbara and her husband are active ILEAD members who reside in Quechee, VT every summer and fall. They have two sons, both of whom are lawyers. Barbara is the author of the Mary Magruder Katz mystery series, whose protagonist is a Miami defense attorney. The latest installment, Outrageous October, takes place in the Upper Valley!
